What We Do

What is the Focus of Health and Wellness Coaching?

Health and wellness coaching supports people in defining and achieving their personal and professional goals and taking action to live the life they desire. By holistically improving our clients’ well-being, we help them become both more successful at work and happier in life.

A wellness coach is like a personal trainer except the focus is on your whole self. Any concern that gets in the way of achieving your optimal well-being (e.g., overwhelming stress, lack of time for self-care, navigating relationships, work-life integration, or a professional transition) is a suitable focus for coaching.

As a Gallup survey noted, “Well-being is a leadership strategy for a great job and a great life.” Professionals, in particular, tend to exhibit the physical, psychological and behavioral symptoms of stress and burn-out. But we know that less-stressed and healthier individuals are more productive, engaged, and effective. Moreover, half of all illnesses in the U.S. today are believed to be caused by health behaviors and lifestyle. The most common chronic conditions affecting Americans — from hypertension to diabetes and heart disease — are largely impacted by our daily behaviors (e.g., nutrition, sleep, exercise, smoking, and stress).

When Do Clients Call Thrivewell for Help?

We work frequently with professionals at all stages of their lives and also at particular life stages and career transitions, including career promotions, preparing for maternity leave, returning to work after leave, and taking care of elderly parents. We understand that wellness is a journey that requires frequent reassessing and rebalancing at different stages in life.

How Does Coaching Work?

We assist clients in realizing their goals through inquiry, personal discovery and accountability. We support and inspire each client to set realistic goals, stay motivated, track progress, harness the strengths needed to overcome obstacles, and celebrate success.

Our coaching is rooted in the principles of wellness and the academic and clinical research around positive behavior change. Our methodology is also deeply compassionate and tailored to the unique needs of each client. We know that there is no one formula that works for each person and our coaching is personalized to meet each client’s circumstances, goals, and capacities.

Facilitated Self-Discovery

We guide our clients through a process to help them learn more about themselves so they can identify what is most important to them.  We ask powerful questions that provide opportunities for self-awareness and insight, and invite reflection and new perspectives.

Action Plan

We help clients set realistic and practical goals and actionable strategies to achieve results.  Coaching is client-centered and believes in the ability of each individual to develop proactive strategies to improve their health and vitality.

Support and Accountability

We provide clients with the support, confidence, and accountability to make positive changes and sustain accomplishments.  We know from research that changing habits can be challenging, even when people are highly motivated, and that change can sometimes be overwhelming or frightening.  As experts in behavior change, we help clients build confidence, identify obstacles that may arise, and plan to successfully overcome them.

Powerful Partnership

Our coaching relationship will create a powerful partnership: You set the goals and pace and bring a commitment to improvement; we complement that with our holistic and client-centered process, guidance, and support.  You will create the most value for yourself by being invested and focused on what is important to you.  We will provide you with resources to help you make progress, build your confidence, succeed, and maintain momentum.

We coach clients looking to make change in a variety of areas, including:

  • reducing and managing stress;
  • making lifestyle changes to improve well-being, such as improving diet, developing healthy sleep habits, or creating a regular exercise routine;
