What is Integrative Health Coaching?
Integrative health coaching is a powerful tool – rooted in academic research and the science of behavior change — that supports people in defining and achieving their personal and professional goals. Coaching helps people recognize and achieve the goals they have always wanted for themselves and make long-term changes to improve their health and wellness and maximize their potential.
For us, health means the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease. Integrative health coaching is a whole-person approach that helps you focus on whichever area or areas of your life will most contribute to your well-being at that point in time. Optimal health is a journey that requires frequent reassessing and rebalancing at different stages in life.
How is Integrative Health Coaching Different from Consulting or Therapy?
While consulting aims to develop a concrete/tactical solution within the same orientation, health coaching engages you as a learner and works with you to develop new competencies, habits, and insights to reach your goals. Coaching creates a safe space for your learning and growing and is aimed at achieving long-term excellence.
Coaching is focused on the present and is progress-oriented. We ask powerful questions that encourage reflection and are focused on where your life and health are today, where you want to be in the future, and how you can get there.
Where do you conduct sessions and how often will we meet?
Individual coaching sessions can be conducted in person or by phone. We conduct sessions in person in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area and by phone with clients throughout the country. Coaching sessions are typically once a week or every other week, and range from 30 minutes to 60 minutes in length. At the beginning of the partnership, we work with each client to set the timing and pace of sessions that works best with the client’s lifestyle, goals, and needs.
What do you ask of a client?
Coaching creates a partnership where the client is an active and engaged learner. You will create the most value for yourself by being invested and focused on what is important to you. We will provide you with worksheets and resources to help you make progress and build your confidence. To create and maintain momentum, you will have work to do between sessions.
